Football Recap: Venice Finds Playoff Glory Versus Sumner + How To Watch

Venice had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They strolled past the Sumner Stingrays with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 41-22. The Indians pushed the score to 34-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Stingrays cut but never quite recovered from.

Dorian 'Macho' Jones had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 168 yards and three scores on only 13 carries, while also picking up 35 receiving yards. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. John Ford was another key back, rushing for 88 yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Venice was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 276 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 163 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.

Venice's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Asharri 'BAM' Charles, Aaron Campbell, and Cole Wetherington, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Sumner's side was Kane Judson, who forced two fumbles and made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Venice is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.6 points over those games. As for Sumner, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3.

Coming up, Venice will take on Lake Mary at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will need to watch out since the Rams have now posted at least 31 points in their last five contests. Sumner does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
