Basketball Recap: Brookhaven Falls Despite Big Games from Kema Roberts and Sh'nya Hill

Brookhaven lost against Natchez on January 9th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Brookhaven Panthers lost to the Natchez Bulldogs on the road by a 49-30 margin. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 48th).

Sh'Nya Hill and Kema Roberts certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Hill posted 11 points and five rebounds, while Roberts had seven points and nine boards. What's more, Roberts also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Trinity Smith also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

RONIYA ELLIS was her usual excellent self, going 8 of 19 en route to 27 points for Natchez. ELLIS is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. CALEAH KENNEDY was another key player, going 5 for 12 on her way to 11 points and six rebounds.

Brookhaven has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Natchez, their record is now 18-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brookhaven will venture away from home to challenge Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Florence will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Brookhaven surely won't give up without a fight. Natchez has already played their next contest (against South Jones), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
