Tornillo is 3-0 against the since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Tornillo Coyotes will head out on the road to challenge Compass Academy at 6:30 p.m. Tornillo is no doubt hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses.
Tornillo pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Alpine on the road by a decisive 71-56 margin. While losing is never fun, Tornillo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1432nd, while the Bucks are ranked 512th).
Meanwhile, Compass Academy suffered a tough 49-24 loss at the hands of the Buffaloes on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Compass Academy in their matchups with the Buffaloes: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the loss, Compass Academy had strong showings from Jacob Prieto, who scored four points along with two steals, and John Johnson, who scored six points. It was the first time this season that Prieto grabbed two or more steals.
Tornillo has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Compass Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 5-16.
Tornillo didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 38-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tornillo since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
