Julieta Ramirez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Laila Morales, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kayla Shem, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for King City, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Sequoia on Saturday.
Like Independence, King City also got a great game from a two-way player: Alizah Carrillo. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Carrillo was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Avery Munoz was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one triple. Jocelyn Romero was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Independence pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for King City, their record is now 16-11.
