Baseball Recap: Dobie Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Dobie barely beat Alvin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Longhorns' pitcher stepped up to hand the Yellowjackets a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Longhorns have won 11 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Juelz Martinez was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Willard Joiner III, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

The win (which was Dobie's sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Alvin, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-14.

Coming up, Dobie will challenge Manvel at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Longhorns' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Alvin, they will take on Pasadena Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mavericks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
