West is 2-8 against Hardin Valley Academy since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rebels will take on the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, West put up the most runs they have all season on Monday. They put the hurt on Seymour with a sharp 15-4 win. The Rebels not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024.
Brooke Weaver made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Kayln Stirone was a standout: she scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Claire Davenport, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.
West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hardin Valley Academy hadn't done well against Bearden recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Hawks blew past the Bulldogs 16-5. Winning may never get old, but the Hawks sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Elsie Hatcher made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Hatcher was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Souders, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. Emma Kate Schneider was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
With the victory, West broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-7. As for Hardin Valley Academy, their record is now 4-16.
West was able to grind out a solid win over Hardin Valley Academy in their previous matchup back in March, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
