Holmes is on a three-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Ludlow a five-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Holmes Bulldogs will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Ludlow Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, Holmes beat Augusta 22-19.
Meanwhile, Ludlow hadn't done well against Dayton recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Panthers blew past the Greendevils 15-5. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Evie Orsua made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. Orsua was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Shelby Ralston was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Miley Lay, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Ludlow hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
The victory got Holmes back to even at 4-4. As for Ludlow, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Holmes was able to grind out a solid victory over Ludlow in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 22-17. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
