Make it 14 blowout wins for the Gilbert Tigers this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Desert Ridge 72-40 at home. Given Gilbert's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Jaguars are ranked 84th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gilbert found their leader in underclassman Aspen McClees, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. McClees is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Caia Campbell was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists and two steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Gilbert and bumps their season record up to 20-3. As for Desert Ridge, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-10.
Gilbert and the Bulldogs will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The timing isn't great for Queen Creek: they have been struggling with seven straight losses at home, while the Tigers have snatched up seven consecutive wins on the road. Desert Ridge will take on the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gila Ridge will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
