Monroe hasn't had much luck against Lake Stevens recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Monroe will challenge Lake Stevens at 4:30 p.m. Monroe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Monroe made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Jackson, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Monroe was the clear victor by an 18-8 margin over Jackson on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bearcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Scarlett Nagy was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024. Hadley Oylear was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Nagy wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Monroe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Lake Stevens earned a 5-2 victory over Meadowdale on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won five in a row.
Mara Sivley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks.
On the hitting side, Lake Stevens' victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Addi Fletcher, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those hits marked the first that Fletcher got this season. Another was Emerson Cummins, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
The win got Lake Stevens back to even at 2-2. As for Monroe, their record is now 2-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Monroe hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lake Stevens struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Monroe suffered a grim 17-4 defeat to Lake Stevens when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Monroe avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
