It was a good run, but the Cozad Haymakers unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 60-52 to Ogallala. Cozad lost against Ogallala in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 72-45 score last time.
Cozad lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Monty Brooks-follmer, who scored 15 points. The matchup was Brooks-follmer's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olliver Davis, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Cozad's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-1. As for Ogallala, their win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0.
Cozad won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Patrick's at 4:30 p.m. on January 6th. St. Patrick's will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Cozad is ranked tenth). As for Ogallala, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sidney at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
