The Chetopa Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Altoona-Midway Jets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Chetopa is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Chetopa had to suffer through a rough 67-30 loss at the hands of Tyro Christian. While losing is never fun, Chetopa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 348th, while Tyro Christian is ranked 164th).
Altoona-Midway posted their closest win yet this season on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Tyro Christian 45-42. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Altoona-Midway.
Altoona-Midway can attribute much of their success to Kieran Foster, who scored 19 points, and William Stackhouse, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Stackhouse is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Meigs, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Chetopa bumped their record down to 0-7 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.2 points per game. As for Altoona-Midway, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Chetopa was taken down by Altoona-Midway 55-27 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Stackhouse, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Now that Chetopa knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
