Liberty Christian is on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Regents is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Liberty Christian Warriors will take on the Regents Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Liberty Christian had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They breezed by the Saints on the road to the tune of 45-17. Given Liberty Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 24th, while All S is ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cole Welliver continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 297 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per attempt. Quinton Brown was another key contributor, picking up 103 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Liberty Christian's defense and their five sacks. Mac Saul was especially locked on to All S's QB and sacked him three times.
Meanwhile, Regents' offense rose to the challenge against a Eagles defense that boasted an average of only 14.31 points allowed. Regents blew past Second Baptist 34-7 on the road. That's two games straight that Regents has won by exactly 27 points.
Regents' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hudson Powell led the charge by picking up 137 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Powell's longest reception was for an incredible 97 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Murphy, who threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Liberty Christian to 13-0 and All S to 9-3.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Liberty Christian and Regents have no problem gaining yardage. Liberty Christian has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 360.6 total yards per game. However, it's not like Regents struggles in that department as they've been even better at 386.8 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
