The Leroy Bears are on the road again on Thursday and play against the Coosa Christian Conquerors at 7:00 p.m. on December 7th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Leroy had no problem doing just that on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Tigers 27-24.
Leroy had a senior duo take command as Brayden Huebner threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt and Taylor Crumedy picked up 186 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Crumedy's longest reception was for an incredible 83 yards.
Meanwhile, Coosa Christian waltzed into Friday's matchup with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They walked away with a 21-12 win over Pickens County.
Coosa Christian relied on the efforts of Josh Hester, who rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown, and Kanon Wilson, who rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Leroy to 13-0 and Elba to 13-1.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Leroy has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 149.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Coosa Christian struggles in that department as they've been even better at 233.3 per game. It's looking like Thursday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
