The Cocke County Fighting Cocks''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by Jefferson County 56-0. While losing is never fun, Cocke County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Jefferson County is ranked 19th).
Jefferson County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Omarian Mills, who rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Skylar Thomas was another key contributor, rushing for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
Cocke County's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.2 points per game. As for Jefferson County, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Cocke County will head out on the road to face off against Morristown-Hamblen West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jefferson County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against William Blount at 7:00 p.m.
