They blew past Newton County 85-65. Given Choctaw Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Newton County is ranked 113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Choctaw Central was led to victory by Koie Williams and Jayce Sam. Williams scored 17 points, while Sam scored 18 points. Williams' trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Kaden Edwards, who scored ten points.
Choctaw Central pushed their record up to 18-5 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Newton County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Choctaw Central will take on Bay Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Newton County, they will play host again and welcome West Lauderdale, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in West Lauderdale's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
