Farmington is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, they and the Fremont Silverwolves will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 3:30 p.m. Farmington is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
Farmington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Pleasant Grove, who was ranked 16th at the time (Farmington was ranked 20th). The Phoenix came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 9-4 last Friday. While the Phoenix didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ruby Andrus was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Brooklyn Wright also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Andrus wasn't the only one making solid contact: Farmington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in five consecutive games.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Fremont and Mountain Crest had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Silverwolves blew past the Mustangs 14-4 last Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Silverwolves as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Adee Johnsen made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Johnsen was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Fremont got a massive performance out of Cara Henrie, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave Henrie a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jessica Broadbent, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
Farmington pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Fremont, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-10.
Fremont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Farmington has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Fremont, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Farmington's sizable advantage in that area, the Silverwolves will need to find a way to close that gap.
