Nathan Gibson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Albion is 2-1 when Gibson posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Kaiden Froman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Akron entered their tilt with Newfane on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Panthers 14-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 12, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Akron let Jackson Schlabach and Collin Miller run wild. Schlabach got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI and two runs, while Miller got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four RBI gave Schlabach a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Owen, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Albion now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Akron, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Albion has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Akron struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
