Softball Recap: Douglass Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Douglass entered their tilt with Belle Plaine on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Dragons. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 19-7 win on Thursday.

Addie Brewer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Brewer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Douglass let Braylie Knisely and Maddie Waggoner run wild. Knisely went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Waggoner went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits Knisely has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Wagoner, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Douglass kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Douglass pushed their record up to 5-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Belle Plaine, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, Douglass will venture away from home to face off against Cheney at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Cardinals have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season. As for Belle Plaine, they will welcome Conway Springs at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.86 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
