Baseball Game Preview: First Flight Nighthawks vs. Holmes Aces

For the second straight game, First Flight will face off against Holmes. The Nighthawks will head out on the road to challenge the Aces at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. First Flight is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.

First Flight is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Holmes just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Aces by a score of 4-3.

Ben LaVier was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.

The victory was the ninth in a row for Holmes, bringing their record up to 13-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for First Flight, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. First Flight has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Holmes struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
