Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Grosse Pointe North Norsemen walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Fitzgerald 25-22. The win was just what Grosse Pointe North needed coming off of a 42-7 defeat in their prior game.
Grosse Pointe North can attribute much of their success to Ryan Henderson, who threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in a rushing score. Ethan Bailey-Gonzalez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Grosse Pointe North's victory was their fourth straight at home , which pushed their record up to 7-4. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Sterling Heights and 2-7 Warren Woods-Tower (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.6% over those games). As for Fitzgerald, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Grosse Pointe North will look to defend their home field on Friday against King at 5:00 p.m. King presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Grosse Pointe North in Michigan (King is ranked 94th, while Grosse Pointe North is ranked 251st). Fitzgerald does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
