Lawrence Academy has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Halifax Academy Vikings at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lawrence Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Lawrence Academy came up short against Pungo Christian Academy and fell 61-48.
Despite the defeat, Lawrence Academy had strong showings from Mari Larry, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds, and Nike Wiggins, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Wiggins hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games.
Meanwhile, Halifax Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Kerr-Vance Academy as Halifax Academy made off with a 77-54 victory. The win was just what Halifax Academy needed coming off of a 71-36 loss in their prior match.
Thad Harris was his usual excellent self, scoring 33 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Landon Peoples was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Lawrence Academy's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Halifax Academy, their win bumped their record up to 4-15.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Lawrence Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Halifax Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Lawrence Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Halifax Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 70-57. Will Lawrence Academy repeat their success, or does Halifax Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
