Softball Recap: Valley Takes a Loss

Valley dropped their record down to 9-10 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Bernalillo Spartans, falling 14-5. Vikings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Spartans since on Tuesday.

Lorelei Troncoso made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Naliyah Mora was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Bernalillo, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by nine runs or more this season.

On Bernalillo's side, Calandria Montoya made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits. Montoya has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Kylee Herrera was incredible, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Chavez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 27-11 loss against Albuquerque Academy on the 18th. As for Bernalillo, they have also already played their next game, a 21-3 win against Hope Christian on the 18th.
