Two dominant signal callers in Jaxon Hunt and Tyler Messer are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mountain Ridge Sentinels will square off against the Herriman Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Mountain Ridge sitting on eight straight wins and Herriman on three.
Mountain Ridge is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took down Riverton 35-21. 35 seems to be a good number for the Sentinels as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Kohen Cunningham was his usual excellent self, picking up 109 receiving yards and one score. He got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 69 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mountain Ridge's defense and their three sacks. Cole Uluave was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Another thorn in Riverton's side was Cutler Whitaker, who made nine total tackles (1.5 for loss) and defended three passes in addition to snagging three interceptionstwo of which were returned for touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Herriman really took it to Weber for the full four quarters, racking up a 62-32 win. Considering the Mustangs have won eight games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Mountain Ridge better keep an eye on Felisi Felipe. He was instrumental in Herriman's win, rushing for 104 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries. Felipe is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Isaac Larson was another major influence, as he rushed for 64 yards and ran in a TD.
Herriman was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 341 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September.
Herriman's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Mountain Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
The upcoming contest will be a clash of competing strengths. Mountain Ridge has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 333.8 passing yards per game. Herriman, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 194.9 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Mountain Ridge strolled past Herriman when the teams last played back in October by a score of 24-8. Will the Sentinels repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
