North Kitsap has gone a perfect 10-0 against North Mason recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Vikings will square off against the Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. North Kitsap's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so North Mason's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
North Kitsap is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Port Angeles just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Roughriders by a score of 5-4.
Jack Nelson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.
At the plate, North Kitsap saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dawsyn Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Mason). They walked away with a 13-10 victory over Kingston on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Reid Shumaker was incredible, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Calvin Rice was another key player, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
North Mason's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for North Kitsap, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 8-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. North Kitsap has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Mason struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
North Kitsap took their victory against North Mason when the teams last played on April 1st by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
