The Dobie Longhorns will challenge the Ridge Point Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dobie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Dobie is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Manvel just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 7-6.
Vanessa De La Fuente was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alexis Martinez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Natalie De Hoyos was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Ridge Point waltzed into their match on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Panthers have won 16 games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Ridge Point also got a great performance from Kennedy Gray as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Gray has posted since back in March.
At the plate, Braelyn Daniels was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ellie Napoleoni, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Ridge Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Bend Austin only posted an OBP of .167.
Ridge Point's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Dobie, their loss dropped their record down to 16-11.
Dobie took their win against Ridge Point when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. Do the Longhorns have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
