Baseball Recap: Friends Select Gets the Win

Friends Select proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by six) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Westtown 8-7. For the Falcons, this counts as revenge for the 5-1 win Westtown walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2018.

Conor Humowiecki was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.

Humowiecki wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cole Semel, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Another was Dante DiCicco, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Friends Select has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Westtown, they moved to 4-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Friends Select will face off against Academy of the New Church at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Westtown, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Episcopal Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
