The Carson Colts will square off against the San Pedro Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Carson 2.6, San Pedro 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Carson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over Birmingham. Considering the Colts have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Giselle Pantoja tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rylee Gardner was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ashannalee Titialii, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Carson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Birmingham only posted an OBP of .370.
Meanwhile, San Pedro entered their tilt with Kennedy on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 6-1.
Caroline Baker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brianna Rodela, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Breya Ventura was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
The victory (which was Carson's fifth in a row) raised their record to 21-3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for San Pedro, their record is now 17-3.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .422. However, it's not like San Pedro struggles in that department as they've averaged .421. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
