Basketball Recap: Mingus' Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mingus had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They strolled past the Bradshaw Mountain Bears with points to spare, taking the game 61-42. That's more bragging rights for the Marauders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Mingus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Savannah Tobias, who went 7 of 14 en route to 19 points and four steals. Tobias is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 44 games she's played dating back to last season. Alice Kinsey was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to 14 boards and five steals.

Mingus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 20 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Bradshaw Mountain lost, don't look at Kalli Smith. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 17 on her way to 18 points and six rebounds. That was a full 42.9% of Bradshaw Mountain's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allyson Downing, who earned six points.

Mingus' victory bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Bradshaw Mountain, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Lee Williams the next time they take the court. Mingus will host Lee Williams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Bradshaw Mountain will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
