After flying high against Varsity Opponent last Friday, the Sabinal Yellowjackets came back down to earth. Sabinal fell just short of Ingram Moore by a score of 63-61. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (57), Sabinal still had to take the loss.
Sabinal lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Joseph Contreras, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. Contreras scored a full 34.4% of Sabinal's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ricardo Perez, who scored 22 points.
Sabinal has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Ingram Moore, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sabinal will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against D'Hanis at 1:30 p.m. on December 27th. D'Hanis will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. Ingram Moore will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fredericksburg at 12:15 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
