The Aztec Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Silver Fighting Colts at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Aztec is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Goddard with a sharp 14-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Kamora Henry made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Aztec got a massive performance out of Reagan Bradshaw, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Christina Whitehorse was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Aztec always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Goddard only posted an OBP of .400.
Meanwhile, Silver came tearing into Saturday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Sartans 11-1.
The team relied heavily on Brailyn Lopez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Mia Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Silver's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Aztec, their record now sits at 18-11.
Aztec might still be hurting after the 15-1 defeat they got from Silver in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
