3A Region 1 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Belmont's Alexander Fancher recorded the longest rushing play in 3A Region 1 this season in his game against Kossuth last week. Fancher scampered for 79 yards on the play and finished with 120 on the day as his team bested the Aggies.
Belmont moved up to 134 from 161 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Kerry Moody's team was able to make the jump by beating Kossuth 54-26.
Ripley's dynamic duo of Cody James and Sedabris Boyd proved tough for Holly Springs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. James threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns and Boyd had 80 yards receiving. John Austin Moore helped Ripley's passing attack out by catching two balls for 50 yards.
Colin Harris was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 121 yards as the Cardinals bested the Hawks.
Devin Hurst made the biggest impact on defense this week as Belmont topped Brian Kelly's team. The 5-foot-10 sophomore forced one fumble and grabbed one sack.
5-foot-11 quarterback James of Ripley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1231. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, Holly Springs' Tevin Jones has rushed for 944 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Andrew Lambert. The Booneville star has 16 catches for 298 yards.
Jones of the Chris Rankin's team is only 56 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Chad Cook's team takes on the Cardinals. The Tigers are currently in third, while Belmont is in first.
Booneville took down the Bears 54-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jack Simpson threw for 100 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 26 yards in the win.
