The Fremont Eagles will head out to challenge the Fort Wayne Canterbury Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Fremont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Fremont is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since June 8, 2024 on Saturday. They came up short against New Haven, falling 16-4.
Fremont saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Hufnagle, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Colten Guthrie was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Wayne Canterbury). Everything went their way against Fort Wayne Crusaders on Saturday as they made off with a 15-4 win. The Cavaliers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Andrew Maloblocki was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, JP Rohwer was incredible, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noah Hayes, who got on base in five of his seven plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Fort Wayne Canterbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .612. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne Crusaders only posted an OBP of .344.
Fort Wayne Canterbury has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Fremont, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fremont has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fort Wayne Canterbury struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Fremont took their win against Fort Wayne Canterbury when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
