Forest City had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it seven. They lost 15-4 to the Montrose Meteors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Meteors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-3 on April 3rd.
Max Urbas put in work no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Urbas was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Urbas wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Reynolds, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Isiaha Vega also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
As for Montrose, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.
Like Forest City, Montrose also got a great game from a two-way player: Hudson Aukema. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Aukema also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Montrose is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Aukema was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Montrose let Christopher McGee and Chase Harman run wild. McGee went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Harman got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave Harman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lukas Cokely, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Forest City will challenge rival Carbondale Area at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Montrose is set to square off against their familiar foe Blue Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
