Basketball Recap: Sugar Hill Christian Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Tyler Veugeler and Gabriel Espin

After flying high against War Hill Christian Academy last Tuesday, Sugar Hill Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Sugar Hill Christian Academy Stallions received a blow on Thursday as they fell 68-52 to the Victory Baptist Warrior. The Stallions were down 56-35 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Sugar Hill Christian Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Gabriel Espin and Tyler Veugeler. Espin dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards, while Veugeler went 5 of 12 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. Veugeler has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Randall Fanning was another key player, putting up seven points and six rebounds.

Victory Baptist's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eric Banks Jr, who went 9 for 14 en route to 18 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Kuykendall, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 17 points.

Sugar Hill Christian Academy's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-12. As for Victory Baptist, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sugar Hill Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against North Georgia Christian Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Victory Baptist, they and Trinity Prep will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Victory Baptist knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Trinity Prep likes a good challenge.
