The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Broughton Capitals at 6:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Cardinal Gibbons sitting on six straight wins and the Capitals on three.
Last Friday, Cardinal Gibbons humbled the Eagles with a 63-32 victory. Given Cardinal Gibbons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Eagles are ranked 329th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cash McSweeney continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15 points for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Smalls, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, even though Leesville Road scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, Broughton still came out on top. Broughton walked away with a 64-55 win over the Pride. That's two games straight that Broughton has won by exactly nine points.
Cardinal Gibbons has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Broughton, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.
Cardinal Gibbons came out on top in a nail-biter against the Capitals when the teams last played two weeks ago, sneaking past 57-54. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Broughton's Harrison Peatross, who scored 18 points along with two steals.
