The Marion Swamp Foxes scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They walked away with a 62-50 win over Cane Bay. Given Marion's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Cane Bay is ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jamorius Wilson was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jameir Legette, who scored 11 points.
Despite the defeat, Cane Bay saw an underclassman step up: Jarvis Roper scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Smalls, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Marion's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Cane Bay, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marion and Marlboro County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Marlboro County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Marion likes a good challenge. As for Cane Bay, they will head out on the road to face off against Andrews at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Andrews focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday.
