If the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders were riding high off their 78-27 takedown of the Valle Catholic Warriors last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Saxony Lutheran fell 44-36 to Gibault Catholic on Saturday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Saxony Lutheran has scored all season.
Saxony Lutheran lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being John Hartmann, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Hartmann hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Owen Bucheit, who scored ten points.
Saxony Lutheran struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Saxony Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Gibault Catholic, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-10.
Saxony Lutheran on the road again on Tuesday and play against Delta at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Delta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 434th, while Saxony Lutheran is ranked 177th). As for Gibault Catholic, they will face off against Carlyle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carlyle is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
