Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They and the West Phoenix Eagles will face off at 4:00 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way will be strutting in after a victory while the Eagles will be coming in after a loss.
Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way put the finishing touches on their 19th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They breezed by East Valley Athletes for Christ at home to the tune of 74-37. Given Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Eagles are ranked 43rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Branden Trujillo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points. Another player making a difference was Kaleel Johns, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, West Phoenix came up short against the Griffins on Tuesday and fell 62-51. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Phoenix in their matchups with the Griffins: they've now lost five in a row.
Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way's victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24.1 points. As for West Phoenix, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way against the Eagles in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 64-33 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
