Basketball Recap: Vassar Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Austin Long and Bryce Brown

Vassar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. The contest between them and the Millington Cardinals didn't end well, with the Vassar Vulcans falling 66-50. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vulcans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-40 back in December of 2024.

Vassar's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Bryce Brown, who went 6 for 10 en route to 12 points and eight boards, and Austin Long, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 16 points. The matchup was Long's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Madix Gorleski was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Vassar's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Millington, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vassar will square off against Reese at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Vassar is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season. As for Millington, they will take on Unionville-Sebewaing at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Millington is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Unionville-Sebewaing a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
