The Jones County Greyhounds entered their tilt with the Luella Lions with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Jones County came out on top against Luella by a score of 75-68 on Thursday. Given Jones County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Luella is ranked 350th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kaden Douglas continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Wold, who scored eight points.
Luella lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sayon Watkins, who scored 21 points. Watkins continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cameron Wright, who scored 18 points.
Jones County pushed their record up to 14-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.2 points per game. As for Luella, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.
Jones County will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Houston County on Friday. Luella's road trip will continue as they head out to face Rock Creek Christian Academy at 2:10 p.m. on December 28th.
