The Santa Teresa Desert Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Cathedral Fighting Irish at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Santa Teresa is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Santa Teresa barely beat Mountain View the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Santa Teresa never let Mountain View get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Desert Warriors have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Ardon Luna's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gavin Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Molina, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Cathedral was able to grind out a solid win over Clint on Tuesday, taking the game 8-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fighting Irish.
Derek Armendariz tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Alex Medrano was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Gabriel Ramirez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Santa Teresa's record now sits at 11-2. As for Cathedral, their record now sits at 16-7-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Santa Teresa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .535. However, it's not like Cathedral struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Santa Teresa might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Cathedral in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Santa Teresa avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
