Basketball Recap: Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Takes a Loss

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte lost against McLaughlin back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves took a blow against the McLaughlin Mustangs, falling 70-42.

Several Braves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gracelynn Laundreaux, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Laundreaux a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Chere LeClaire, who went 5 for 7 en route to 10 points.

Even though they lost, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-6. As for McLaughlin, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cheyenne-Eagle Butte will take on Bennett County at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for McLaughlin, they will head out on the road to challenge Timber Lake at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Timber Lake will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something McLaughlin surely won't give up without a fight.
