Baseball Recap: Athens Starts Season with Win at Home

Athens gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Huntsville Panthers. This was payback for the Golden Eagles, who suffered a 5-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Athens let Luke Vaughan and Chase Taylor loose on the outfield. Vaughan scored two runs while going 2-for-5, while Taylor scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs Vaughan has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Walker Fleming, who scored a run while going 3-for-6.

Coming up, Athens will take on James Clemens on Monday. As for Huntsville, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Bob Jones at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
