Mission Heights Prep is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against East Valley Athletes for Christ, sneaking past 8-6.
Jacob Kemp was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ricky Luevano, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Mission Heights Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Heritage Academy made easy work of AZ Compass Prep National last Wednesday and carried off a 7-1 victory. Considering the Heroes have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Micah Figueroa tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Heritage Academy got a big performance out of Conrad Reichard, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Aiden Petro was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Heritage Academy's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 15.7 runs this season. As for Mission Heights Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-2 record this season.
Mission Heights Prep suffered a grim 18-4 defeat to Heritage Academy when the teams last played back in March. Can the Phantoms avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
