Nelsyn Wheeler Delivers Best Performance of Season
Nelsyn Wheeler produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Grand Island to the win on Friday. Wheeler rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: he has now rushed for 128 or more in the last three games he's played.
With the victory, Grand Island broke their eight-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-7. Wheeler and Grand Island will host Omaha Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Westview picked up their third consecutive win on Friday thanks in part to Blake Smith. Omaha Northwest had no answer to Smith as he rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Smith's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 150 rushing yards.
For the season, Smith has run in 11 touchdowns while averaging 116.2 rushing yards per game. He's made a big improvement compared to last season: at this point last year, he had two rushing touchdowns.
