Football Recap: Strong Effort on D from Zamar Malveaux and Alex Garcia Leads Hesperia over Sultana

If Sultana wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Hesperia, they should've done a better job of containing Zamar Malveaux. The Scorpions managed a 33-28 win over the Sultans on Friday thanks in part to Malveaux, who rushed for 203 yards and one TD while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also picked up 39 receiving yards and one touchdown. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 113 rushing yards.

Hesperia didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Malveaux and Alex Garcia. Another thorn in Sultana's side was Nathan Rodriguez, who made 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Despite the defeat, Sultana had strong showings from Dell Hester, who gained 252 total yards and two touchdowns, and Austin Mullinax, who rushed for 57 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries. Hester got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 75 yards.

Hesperia's record now sits at 6-3. As for Sultana, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Hesperia is set to square off against their familiar foe Oak Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Malveaux and Christopher Martin. Meanwhile, Sultana will face off against rival Apple Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
