After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Rossville, the Oskaloosa Bears were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against St. Mary's Academy by a score of 42-29. Winning is a bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 23% better than the opposition, as Oskaloosa's was.
Trenten Vanhoutan continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with nine rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Hunter Miller, who scored six points.
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josh Knueper, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Knueper pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Moats, who scored two points along with four steals.
Oskaloosa now has a winning record of 5-4. As for St. Mary's Academy, they have fallen quite a ways from their 15-7 record last season and are now at 3-7.
Oskaloosa will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Jefferson West. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Jefferson West is ranked 190th, while Oskaloosa is ranked 193rd). St. Mary's Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Atchison County at 11:00 a.m. on January 20th. Atchison County is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
