Brush has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Weld Central Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Brush will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 307th, while Weld Central is ranked 147th).
Brush suffered their biggest defeat yet this season last Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 72-27 loss at the hands of University. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Brush in their matchups with University: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Brush saw an underclassman step up: Edgar Ortiz scored eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Weld Central pushed their score all the way to 60 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 69-60 to Berthoud. Weld Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tyler Branch, who scored 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Jace Cornelius was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Brush's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Weld Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Brush have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Weld Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 18.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Brush came up short against Weld Central in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 60-52. Can Brush avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
