The Rockledge Raiders were the 59-48 winner over the Merritt Island Christian Cougars when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The match between both teams wasn't particularly close, with Rockledge falling 67-48. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 484th, while Merritt Island Christian is ranked 153rd).
Rockledge lost on Monday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Makaiya Watkins, who scored six points along with 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Jaida Williams-Goins was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Rockledge were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merritt Island Christian only racked up 18 assists.
It was another big night for Summer Snaith, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds for Merritt Island Christian. Snaith set a new season high mark in blocks with six. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Rhodes, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Rockledge and nudges their season record down to 3-8. As for Merritt Island Christian, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2.
Rockledge will challenge Space Coast at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Merritt Island Christian, they will be playing at home against Cocoa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
