The Lake Creek Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Magnolia West Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Magnolia West likes a good challenge.
Lake Creek pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Montgomery by a score of 66-63. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Lake Creek came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Montgomery is ranked 804th).
Lake Creek's loss came about despite a quality game from Aedan Lewis, who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Lewis is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jett Sutton, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Magnolia West's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 77-59 fall against Rudder. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Magnolia West in their matchups with Rudder: they've now lost three in a row.
Lake Creek's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-7. As for Magnolia West, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-19.
Lake Creek didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Magnolia West in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 87-81 victory. Will Lake Creek repeat their success, or does Magnolia West have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
